About the Artist
Artists Statement:
"My work is about capturing often overlooked and fleeting moments, thoughts and visions using the quality purity and honesty of line; an attempt to capture the mysteries of the conscious and subconscious and its interaction with the environment; using color and form to create an emotional connection to the viewer. I am interested in what is just beneath the surface and much, much, deeper"
Bio:
Born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Tylan has taken many classes and workshops, although is largely self taught. He spent formative years drawing and painting traditionally. One of his first studies was drawing moving animals and his interest in live subject matter has continued. He spent thousands of hours rendering the human form at public figure drawing sessions, and quick sketches of people living their daily lives. Tylan's appreciation for the the outdoors and nature led him to landscape painting and he has countless hours on site working in plein air. His landscape studies expanded to various places he has traveled, and he formed a fascination for urban industrial scenes. Railroads and powerlines are a frequent theme in his work. He also holds two degrees in graphic design and illustration. Tylan credits instructor Rob Olson, Yale alumni, who taught him Josef Albers colour theory, as one of his biggest influences and inspirations. His style has since evolved into a unique blend of mixed media, while he's also continued to study traditionally to keep his eye and hand fresh and humble. An article once described his work as "Living non-biological street visions - unstoppable freedom with a fresh approach to tradition," a description he agrees with. His versatile body of work comes from his belief that practicing many mediums and artforms enhance his work and allow him to more effectivly convey his imagination and vision into reality...
